RISK AND SECURITY MANAGEMENT

In the post, The Hacker News explores how ChatGPT can be exploited and leveraged for system exploitation and security enhancement.

REGULATIONS

The EU AI Act, which could be a global model for regulating AI, may be approved soon. The act aims to set a high standard for AI in various sectors and risks. At the Reuters NEXT conference, experts discussed the need for AI guardrails to protect society and democracy. They also mentioned some challenges and solutions for AI safety and ethics.

Meta Platforms will require advertisers to disclose if they use AI or other digital methods to alter or create ads related to politics, society or elections on Facebook and Instagram from 2024. The policy updates aim to prevent the spread of false or misleading content that could influence public opinion. Meta and Google have also launched AI-powered advertising tools that can generate images and text based on prompts, but they have excluded politics from their products.

OpenAI announced a new program to defend its customers from IP lawsuits over the work generated by its tools. The program, called Copyright Shield, covers the legal costs of customers using the general features of OpenAI's developer platform and ChatGPT Enterprise. OpenAI says it has built-in copyright safeguards in its systems.

We see AI in many places, such as face recognition, chatbots, photo editing and self-driving cars. Different governments are trying to put regulations in place, especially the EU, China, the US and the UK. This post explores the different rules for the different types of AI levels of risk.

OpenAI launched GPT-4 Turbo, a more powerful and versatile version of its popular language model, and announced that users can create their own GPTs for various purposes. The company also revealed that ChatGPT has reached 100 million weekly users and 2 million developers. A new GPT Store will soon allow users to share and discover user-created AI bots.

COBOL is a programming language that helped shape the software industry and still powers most banking transactions. However, COBOL applications are hard to maintain and update, and they are not compatible with cloud computing. IBM has created Watsonx Code Assistant for Z, a tool that uses generative AI to transform COBOL applications into high-quality JAVA code optimized for IBM Z and the hybrid cloud. This tool can help enterprises modernize their applications faster and cheaper, while keeping the high performance of IBM Z.

Platform engineering is a new way of software development that combines coding and operations. It helps businesses create customized platforms and use AI to improve their tools and processes. Platform engineering also uses the shift-left approach, which means doing tasks earlier in the development cycle.

Sustainability

GenAI has a high environmental impact, as it requires a lot of computing power and energy. Ravi Jain, an expert on GenAI, explained that this leads to more carbon emissions and challenges the use of renewable energy sources.

The UN-led AI Advisory Body aims to use machine learning to solve common problems and achieve the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). AI can help the world fight climate change by processing huge data, improving models and informing strategies. Examples include the MyAnga app for Kenyan pastoralists and the UN project for displaced communities in Africa.
